How to Stay Safe When Celebrating with Fireworks

Considered one of the most important holidays of the year, the Fourth of July is a time for celebrating American independence. If you plan to celebrate things with a bang or keep it lowkey — there’s no doubt the holiday wouldn’t be complete without setting off some spectacular fireworks.

Nevertheless, here are some essential safety tips to keep in mind when dealing with fireworks:

  • Ensure they’re clean. Ensure the fireworks you’re purchasing come from a licensed and locally permitted shop. This step ensures that your products are well-managed and made with up-to-code standards. Remember to read and follow all safety labels and instructions.

  • Prepare safety routes. Only set off fireworks in an open space outdoors. Keep fireworks away from buildings and any shrubbery or plants to prevent wildfires. Remember to have a steady water supply nearby and a water bucket, just in case. Remember also to keep children and pets away from the area.

  • Stay sober. Many people celebrate the holiday with some drinks. However, drinking too much alcohol can lead to people engaging in risky behavior, which may lead to a disaster. If you still plan to drink to your heart’s desire, ensure you do so after you’ve finished lighting up all fireworks.

  • Inform your neighbors. In the spirit of celebrations, we may often forget that not everyone celebrates it as we do. If you do plan to set off some loud fireworks into the sky, inform your neighbors so they can be better prepared.
  • Keep children and pets away. Make sure children are away from the area before setting up fireworks. In addition, make sure your pets are indoors or that they are in a place where they are safe.

Preparation is no joke especially when it comes to basic firework safety. With restrictions finally easing up, it’s almost a given that many would love to go all out with their celebrations this year. Nevertheless, one should never neglect their safety under any circumstances. Stay safe and have a happy Fourth of July!
