How the Pandemic Affects Our Mental Health

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected our lives for more than two years. With restrictions, lockdowns, social distancing, and limited opportunities to work–there is no doubt that it could have a disastrous on us psychologically. Here are some ways how the pandemic has affected us mentally:

  1. We have become lonelier.

Regulations that involve staying at home and practicing social distancing have made us unable to connect with our loved ones as we did before. Many have reported feeling lonely because of this event. As a result, many have shifted to online connections for some semblance of normalcy. Without constant communication, our social skills wave over time, leaving us awkward and alienated from society.

  1. We have questioned our purpose.

Many people lost their jobs during the pandemic. Thanks to this effect, many people dismissed from work are now seeking alternative ways to make a living. From starting an online business to living with relatives, there is no doubt that the pandemic has stagnated our career growth potential. While many have thrived, many people have felt the enormous pressure of poverty–making them more susceptible to societal risks and mental health issues.

  1. We have become more anxious, depressed, and traumatized.

People with limited access to a support network are at risk for trauma, especially if they live in an abusive household. When this happens, they become susceptible to potential harm, including physical and even sexual harm. When left untreated or unsupported, individuals may risk running away or even end up dead.

There is no doubt that restrictions and regulations are adapted to prevent the spread of the disease. Nevertheless, not everyone is lucky to be able to live in a stable household or even afford adequate housing. With that in mind, it’s important to highlight these issues and offer services that can save their lives.
